𝑫𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝑺𝒑𝒐𝒕𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕: Amanda Weatherwax 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒌: Springport Mid-Michigan Speedway 𝑫𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏: Front Wheel Drives 𝑻𝒆𝒂𝒎: Gatesboy Racing Amanda Weatherwax had a 2022 race season to remember, and she ended it with a win at Kalamazoo Speedway in the Bad Santa Ladies Race Enduro which was also her first victory. To fans who follow Weatherwax closely, her success isn’t a surprise. Weatherwax grew up going to races at Berlin and Kalamazoo. She began her racing career in 2007 when she ran her first ever off-road derby placed third in the Powder Puff event. Weatherwax raced a few more times over the years, and she watched family participate in their off-road derbies and mud-runs. Weatherwax took her talents to the snow-climb scene where she raced side-by-side up the hills at Shanty Creek in the Schuss Mountain Snow Challenge. The thought of hitting the short track racing scene may not have been on her mind, but a trip to New Paris Speedway in 2020 changed her path. In 2020, Weatherwax took in a Night of Destruction at New Paris. She arrived as a fan, and left with a third place finish in the Ladies Race despite being hesitant at first because it wasn’t her car and she didn’t want to crash it. The doors opened for more opportunities to get back on the track, and this time she does it with her other half Scott Gates. Weatherwax jumped into the Enduro scene, and in 2021 she raced with the Great Lakes Enduro Series. In the series, she had one Top 10 finish, multiple Top 20s, and raced to a fifth place finish in the points. Like many Enduro drivers, Weatherwax found success with her conversion to weekly racing, and 2022 welcomed in much growth. Weatherwax enjoyed her rookie season at Springport where she started as a C-Feature contender in the ABC format and improved each week. Weatherwax became a consistent B-Feature competitor, and on the final night of the season she started in her first A-Feature! At Springport, Weatherwax had several Top 5 finishes in the stacked field of cars. She finished 15th overall and fourth in the B Class points. If 2022 is just the beginning, 2023 offers much to look forward to!
